Cynthia Parker-Houghton of Brattleboro has been at for 1 1/2 years, including 2 winters - commuting to work, riding her son to school, shopping and everything else. She has a Yuba Boda Boda mid-tail cargo bike with a 750 mid-drive e-assist kit and a top-notch light system. VBike consulted with her all along the way on her choice of bike, upgrades, e-assist, lighting and studded tires for winter riding. This is a huge part of the VBike program - helping people to get on their bikes and ride everyday.
And Cynthia's celebration of 2000 miles is just the type of thing that VBike loves to highlight. Cynthia is part of a vanguard of Vermonters who are taking back their lives and their mobility, demonstrating what it looks and feels like to show up in the world. She is also showing us how to bust out of the old, tired mainstream transportation choices and helping to point the way towards the massive paradigm shifts we need to make for us, our bodies, our children, our communities and our world.
But enough of our words. Here's Cynthia in her own...

"I just reached 2000 miles since I got my cargo bike about 17 months ago. On a work day I ride about 6 miles. If on my way to work I drop Morgen off at school and pick him up it's about 10 miles. Grocery runs are 2 miles. That's the majority of what I do by bike.
If it weren't for the cargo bike I would be doing that all by car and getting little or no outdoor adventure time or exercise in my daily routine. As it is I saw herons and eagles, mergansers and Canada geese, sweeps of snow swirling across the pavement, sheets of icicles, goats grazing...I had many friend sightings and I slipped past the car congestion in downtown Brattleboro and parked right near whatever business I was going to. Once you get used to the routine of putting extra layers on it is really a great way to go."

Yay Cynthia!
