However, we’ll save that spring news for another time because it’s a little hard to tell this right now, but it’s still sort of like winter out there and we’ve wanted for some time to tell you about our latest industry sponsor, Bar Mitts. Bar Mitts are just the perfect thing for the winter rider who wants to tread deep into the cold months or has a hankering for rolling right through the entire winter. There’s nothing to stop you from winter riding like numb, frozen hands that barely function.
The Bar Mitts company is a family business run by Ward and Patti Graham out of Carson City, NV. They make their product for all styles of bikes and handlebars. Ward told me that the first year he and Patti brought the Bar Mitts idea to Interbike (the biggest bike show in the US), they were virtually laughed out of the building. Unfazed, Ward kept going with his hand warming fetish because in his words “I guess I am just stubborn.” It’s a good thing he did because things are beginning to change as winter riding is catching on big time in places like Minneapolis, MN where they have thousands of snow hardened riders and where the 2nd International Winter Cycling Congress was just held a few weeks ago. Yes, INTERNATIONAL!
So we want to put out a big thanks to Ward and Patti for supporting VBike with a whole bunch of their Bar Mitts. We’ll be way more active next year in promoting winter riding and Bar Mitts will be showcased on our expanding bike fleet. This is our first year with the VBike fleet and so we just didn’t think we were ready to have the bikes set up with studded tires and other winter gear. We’re hoping to really showcase the winter biking thing next winter in a huge way and look forward to doing it with warm hands.
